Together with a country like The Netherlands, Belgian radiotherapy is amongst the most advanced in the world.

Some of the strong points are :

• Few waiting lists
• Availability of advanced systems in many departments
• Active national societies stimulating quality, training and science

There are however a number of challenges :

• An increasing number of small radiotherapy departments
• The reimbursement system needs updating
• Very advanced systems are becoming available internationally, but unclear financing in Belgium
